Who we are
The Ames Children’s Museum and Family Hub ("we," "our," or "us"), a nonprofit organization in formation, operates the website at amesfamilyhub.org and the Ames Family Hub mobile application, and will operate a family facility in Ames, Iowa. This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect and how we use it.
What we collect
We collect information you provide directly to us, including:
- Account information: name, email, phone number, password (hashed)
- Family information: names, dates of birth, and photos of family members
- Health and safety: allergies, medical conditions, emergency contacts (for children using childcare services)
- Payment information: handled and stored by Stripe; we receive only a tokenized identifier
- Visit and usage information: check-ins, services used, time spent at the Hub
- Communications: messages sent to us via forms, email, or chat
Information we collect automatically: standard web analytics (IP address, browser type, pages visited), cookies for session management.
How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide our services (memberships, childcare, classes, events, etc.)
- Process payments and manage subscriptions
- Communicate with you about your account, services, and events
- Ensure safety of children in our care
- Improve our services and develop new ones
- Comply with legal obligations
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with:
- Service providers who help us operate (Stripe for payments, Supabase for data storage, Resend for email, etc.)
- Other parents in your authorized pickup list (with your explicit consent)
- Government agencies when legally required (e.g., Iowa DHS for licensed childcare compliance)
- Law enforcement if presented with valid legal process
Your rights and choices
- Access: You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: You may request corrections to inaccurate information.
- Deletion: You may request deletion of your account. We retain certain records for legal or tax purposes (typically 7 years).
- Marketing: You may opt out of marketing emails or SMS at any time.
- Cookies: You may disable cookies in your browser; some site features may not work properly without them.
Children’s privacy (COPPA)
We collect information about children only with parental consent and only as necessary to provide services. We comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) for users under 13.
